Types of Travel Insurance

There are a number of different options for you when inquiring about travel insurance. We have documented a detailed explanation of the different types of travel insurance available to Canadians. We have also included a travel insurance guide which details the coverage, rules and restrictions to your travel insurance policy

Medical - When you’re travelling outside Canada, medical emergencies can be costly.  And your government health insurance plan provides limited coverage.  It is highly recommended you include insurance with your travel arrangements to protect yourself and your family. Medical insurance is the basic and most important travel insurance to get because it protects the individual to receive the proper medical attention should it be required.

Our Classic Medical Plan is an excellent choice for travellers under age 60 who are travelling outside their home province or territory and don't need to purchase the additional coverages provided by one of our travel insurance packages. For example, this coverage may be ideal if they already have trip cancellation and interruption coverage through a credit card or if their plans don't involve travel aboard an airplane, train, or bus as it provides unlimited coverage for eligible medical expenses and 24-hour multilingual emergency assistance. Special family plan pricing is also available. No deductible payment is required, no health questions are required and stable pre-existing medical conditions are covered. For complete coverage details, limitations and exclusions, please read the Classical Medical Plan policy.

If you require medical treatment during your trip, or for any other emergency, you will be provided with a Toll-Free telephone number that you can call to get assistance and direction on your next step whether it is to find out an approved doctor or a question about your policy.

Interruption/Cancellation - You can protect your travel investment from unforeseen emergencies with trip cancellation and interruption insurance. You purchased a great airfare but it’s non-refundable.  If you have a medical emergency that would require you to cancel your trip, you’d lose your money.  If you purchase travel insurance, you can protect your investment.

If you or a member of your immediate family suffers from a medical condition which may prevent travel as booked, he/she must immediately seek medical advice from the attending doctor and explain his/her travel plans.  He/she must obtain advice from the doctor as to whether or not travel will be possible as booked.  If the doctor advises cancellation, you must immediately cancel your travel plans.    The cancellation & interruption insurance will reimburse only the penalties in effect at the time of the cause of cancellation.  If you are unsure and need clarification, call us. This insurance can be sold to cover all travel arrangements, including air fare, hotel, car rental, etc.  It may be only purchased at the time of initial deposit; or before any cancellation penalties are in effect if your purchased a cruise vacation.

Baggage - Baggage insurance is an option included with the deluxe travel insurance and offers you compensation should your baggage be delayed or lost on your way to your destination or on the return flight home.

This insurance covers belongings against loss, theft or damage, while flying, taking a bus, or train, or travelling with a tour company. The benefit is up to $2,000 in coverage against loss or damage to baggage and personal effects owned and used during the trip. Additionally, this insurance will reimburse the traveller up to $300 to help replace lost travel documents. For complete coverage details, limitations and exclusions, please read the Baggage and Personal Effects policy.

Deluxe Travel Insurance

This is the most complete package we offer and includes emergency medical, trip cancellation and interruption, loss/damage of baggage and personal effects, baggage delay and flight and travel accident insurance. Annual Medical Insurance - Annual travel insurance is a combination of travel insurance, travel medical insurance and travel life insurance for the frequent traveler. You might have guessed from the word "annual" that you buy this insurance yearly, which makes it cost-effective for people who take a lot of vacations in a year or whose job forces them to (or lets them) travel throughout the year. Instead of getting a single-trip travel insurance plan, you buy a year of protection at a time.
Because jobs aren't always as predictable as we might want them to be, people don't feel comfortable buying continuous travel insurance, like you would standard medical insurance. So there are annual travel insurance plans you purchase once-per-year, so you don't have to buy travel insurance every time you take a flight or a vacation.

If you travel regularly, twice or more in a year, an annual multi-trip travel insurance policy will be cost effective. Not only it saves you more money, but the time to apply each time you travel. It also covers all your short cross broader trips for the entire year. There is no deluxe package offered as an annual insurance package.
